What could cause my motorcycle to pop and backfire?

The reason your motorcycle may be backfiring and popping is because the ignition timing may be off or your wires may be crossed.

could be many things. First thing to try is to replace the old gas with high octane new gas and clean the spark plugs.

Typically a backfire is cause by a timing issue or an over rich fuel mixture leading to a late firing. Either either way a good service and tune up should solve the problem.

There are 2 possible causing for the backfiring and popping. Your cylinder may be getting too much gas or not enough air is being sucked in. Try cleaning your air filter and checking the carburetor.
