Common causes of miscarriage are: genetic abnormalities, maternal (mother's) infection, failure of the blood supply in the uterus (whether fetal placental abnormalities or of the mother's organ). About 20% of all pregnancies result in miscarriage, so a single miscarriage does not mean that someone cannot get pregnant again. If someone has multiple miscarriages, see a doctor for advice.
