You could have a ruptured disc in your back causing the numbness and prickling sensation in your hip. Sometimes you will feel it all the way down to your toes as well. The disc could be hitting a nerve causing this sensation. You should have an x-ray and an MRI done to see if this could be the cause.

There are a wide variety of things that could cause this sensation, but you most likely just have a pinched or aggravated nerve in the area. Sometimes it just takes time for this to heal.

It may be due to a hip cartilage disorder. The cartilage in the hip lossens its healthy nature and leads into numbness.

This feeling can be caused by poor circulation to the area. If you have been sitting for an extended period of time get up and stretch!
