The most obvious cause would be some sort of injury to your lung. This would explain the pain when breathing. It could also have to do with the surrounding muscle.

It could be your lungs, you can feel them in your back. Or, if you have a cracked or bruised rib, it can cause pain when you breathe because the ribs surround the lungs. When you inhale, filling your lungs with air, your lungs expand and can make contact with your ribs.

Well it could be a number of things. Are you sick or do you have a cold? Sometimes it also depends on what you eat. Change your diet and then notice the difference.
