Dizziness in dogs can be cause for alarm, and always warrants a trip to your veterinarian. Your dog may have ingested or been exposed to something poison that is affecting his nervous system. Another possibility is Wobbler's Disease, which typically effects large breeds such as Dobermans. Keep your dog as still as possible to prevent injury from a fall.

Dizziness can actually be a symptom of a much larger issue, and your best bet would be to consult with your vet, especially if it persists or gets worse. Sometimes an ear infection can cause instability, but sometimes it can be as serious as a stroke.

Your dog could have a rare middle ear infection that is throwing off his equilibrium just as it would in humans. Other causes could be cerebral lesions, tumor or drug or toxin intoxiation. The cause of the disorder would have to be examined by a Vet professional for proper diagnosis and prognosis.

Check its ears to make sure there aren't any burs or stickers inside. Especially if it shakes its head a lot, this could be the problem.
