What could be causing a sound delay in my home theater system?

Your receiver may be programmed to add a delay. Check the manual for "lip synch" adjustment and see if it is not zero. You may also just have cheap equipment.

Delays are often caused by digital audio receivers, which process the sound before output. Eliminating any signal processing will solve the problem.
