It is more than likely built up scale on the sides of your drain pipe. Use a drain cleaner and then baking soda to clean and neutralize the smell.

Poor drainage could be causing the rotten egg smell. When water sits in the drain without emptying properly the nasty water sits and begins to smell.

It sounds to me like you have some standing water in your piping, we occasionally get the same problem because the plumbing is quite old. I don't think there's a need to call a plumber in or anything drastic - try using some drain cleaner, that should get rid of it for you.

This is most likely attributed to a problem related to your plumbing system. If you live in an apartment, you should contact your maintenance department to come and check it out. If you own a house, you could try to flush the drain with drain cleaning solution, or call a plumber for help.
