The most common reason for a cough is sinus drainage. Sinus drainage could be caused from allergens in the air most commonly because of the season.

Go to the doctor. This could be anything from a cold to pneumonia to H1N1. Don't gamble with it.

If your child has a bad cough it can be a result of several things. For instance, they could have a bad cold. They could have developed walking/pneumonia. If they have a bad sinus problem, this cough could be because of the post nasal drip they are experiencing. You should get ahold of his doctor for a checkup.
