Ringworm is not a worm but a fungus that causes a redish ring on the infected area. The area may be itch or the skin may be flakey like dry skin. You should see a doctor for proper diagnosis and to rule out Deer Tick bite which can also leave a ring like mark but is a very serious infection.

Ringworm is a fungal infection of the skin, and has nothing to do with actual worms. It is transmitted by direct hand-to-hand contact with people infected, or pets. You can get it from sharing personal products, such as hair brushes; you can also get it by walking barefoot on the gym floor (commonly known as athlete's foot).
