A couple of things, a pinched nerve, a heart problem, a stroke, brain communications between arm and brain has gone wrong. If there is numbness consult a doctor even if it is not consistent or for a prolonged amount of time. Consult a doctor.

Presuming this is not a temporary condition from something like sleeping on your arm "funny," you might have a pinched nerve in your neck. You should see your doctor.

Numbness in the arms and neck can be caused by a lack of blood flow to those areas of the body. If numbness is felt in these areas, a person should move these areas. It is very important that good blood flow is maintained.
