Many different things can result in a baby having fluid on their brain, from birth defects, to abuse. As well as trauma caused as a result of birth, or leakage of spinal fluid. You should consult with your doctor to get the exact cause and possible treatment options for your child.

Fluid on the brain can be caused by a blockage of the cerebral spinal fluid flow, over production of CSF or the body has a problem absorbing the CSF.

Blockage of spinal canal or passage of the cerebrospinal fluid or cerebral infetion like meningitis,may be bacterial,viral,tubercular can cause increse in volume of CSF or pressure of CSF. It can cause severe headache,exessive crying,convulsions,unconsiousness,coma and death if not treated promptly. Collection of CSF in excess amount is called Hydrocephalus (Enlarged head).
