Not necessarily. If you have ever damaged or cracked a toe nail it may have died and another one grown back which in turn makes one very thick toe nail. I quick look by a doctor will give you the answer of if it is an infection or not though.

A thick toenail is usually caused by a fungal infection of the toenails. These infections are easily treated with over the counter medications.
