vascualar surgery is any surgery involving the blood vessels of the body. examples are the correction of varicose veins or the surgical removal of a blood clot in the leg. Interventional radiology uses xrays or ultrasounds to assist in surgical procedures such as ultrasound guided biopsy.

Vascular surgery is used when veins and arteries become blocked or constricted to the point that blood flow to parts of the body are severely restricted. Interventional radiology can help guide the surgeon to the blocked arteries. It is basically like having a continuous x-ray for a short time.
