The language spoken in Zamboanga is Creole-based Chavacano, which takes a lot of words from Spanish and most of its grammar from Philippine languages. It is also influenced by Italian, Portuguese and some Native American languages.

It is a kind of Creole dialect which is based on the Spanish language. It is one of six dialects which are called collectively Cavatano. They are all spoken in the Philippines (along with the major Philippine language called Tagalog). This one is spoken primarily in and around Zamboanga City.
