Sytox, or Cytauxzoonosis, is a fatal cat disease spread by ticks. It take 20-30 days for symptoms to arise, but by this point the disease has already entered it's fatal stage. Prevention is the best defense since there is no cure. Use flea and tick medications and keep yards clear of rabbits and moles that also carry the disease.

Sytox is transmitted to a cat by ticks. It is always fatal. Usually there are no symptoms for about three weeks and by this time it's too late. This disease mainly strikes cats in the southern U.S. Your vet can recommend a good tick repellant if your cat goes outside.

Cytauxzoonosis is sytox and is transmitted to a cat from a tick. The disease is very fatal to cats. As far as range of exposure, it almost exclusively strikes cats in the south part of the USA. The disease transmits the cat while the tick feeds on the cat's blood.

This would be Cytauxzoonosis, which is transmitted to the cat while the tick feeds. Once infected symptoms won't show for 20 days, and by then it is too late, the cat will die within a few days. The best thing here is prevention, using a preventative like Frontline. Cats kept indoors are much safer and live longer.

This disease is NOT always fatal, as has been suggested here. It has been reported that survival rates are up to 60% if treated correctly. Our local vet has seen several cases recently and estimated his case survival rate at approx 50%.
