What can you tell me about swelling and a dependent edema?

Answer by  jsmith (2067)

Dependent edema can be caused by multiple different things including, but not limited to, blockages in the venous drainage from your legs, liver problems, protein imbalances, and congestive heart failure. For whatever reason, your circulatory system isn't getting the fluid delivered in your blood plasma back up to the rest of your body against gravity.

Dependent edema is a fluid accumulation in the tissues and it's influenced by gravity. One cause is being on your feet too long. Swelling should be decreased in the morning. It's usually in lower part of body.

Edema is caused by a backup of the lymphatic system. These vessels drain the excess fluid from your body and return it to your circulatory system. If there is blockage in you lymph nodes you will experience swelling.

Answer by  crystal10 (65)

it is when fluid rushes to a limb or body part. The best way to reduce is eleavation and ice

Answer by  Moma123 (1043)

Excessive accumulation of lymphatic fluid in tissue or in an organ (fluid retention) causes swelling or edema. Swelling in leg, ankle or feet is called dependent edema. Heart problem, kidney problem, high intake of anti-imflamatory drugs, blood accumulation in feet while sitting for long hours can cause dependent edema.
