There are two main kinds of green bean plants, the bush varieties, and the pole beans. Both are very produce per square foot plants for the hobby gardener, or the commercial farmer. Both varieties like full sun, and plenty of water, but will reward the grower with a surprising bounty when well cared for.

Green bean plants prefer full sun all day for maximum growth. Usually, the bush beans take about 55 days from planting to harvest time while the pole beans take about 50 days. You can tell the beans are ready to be harvested when they have firmed up and can be snapped.
