There are many types of brackish water crabs. The most common of which is the blue crab. The males and females are known as Jimmys and Sooks.

Brackish water crabs are thrive in water that is neither salty, nor fresh. These in-between dwellers would perish in salty ocean water. Likewise, they could not survive in the pure water of a lake or stream.
