Start with ice bags on the painful area for 10 to 20 minutes. Focus on gradually stretching your hip muscles over time; don't strain it or rush. Taking time off from aggravating activity might also be advised.

For hip flexor injuries, the cause should first be determined. Ice and rest are the immediately treatments. Rehab may be used to increase flexibility and strength to avoid reinjury.

Rehabilitative exercises should be a part of any health plan. Often, rehab can reduce a problem to the point where surgery or other more serious actions are unnecessary.

Obviously, a lot depends upon exactly what is wrong and how bad the problem is. However, in general, physical therapy can greatly improve range of motion and reduce the pain that you feel on exertion. It will not cure it on its own, but it can improve things greatly.

Rehab can help to stretch the muscles and make it much more flexible for day to day use. It can make the person much more mobile and reduce pain.
