What can I do about the fact that my puddle lamps won't light on my Mountaineer?

Check manual to find fuse and check fuse for that light relay, If all is good, check around back of light for corrosion, loose wires and if all checks out, then look at the bulb itself and /or switch.

You probably have a fuse blown that goes to them, you should check your fuse box. Or perhaps a one of the connection wires is damaged.

I would have to say that there would have to be some kind of wiring issue with this type of device. I would take it a part and see if one of your wires is loose or possibly fried.
