What can I do about a bicycle with a noisy brake?

If it is a rim brake I would check to see if the rims are true, for disc brakes I would adjust the calipers.

Most squeaky brakes are caused by impropper "toeing". The front of your brake pad should hit the rim before the back of the pad. Adjust so that it does this.

First you need to determine the cause of the noise. Check to see if your breaks have worn out pads, if that is the case you will need to replace them. The second thing to check would be to see if the gears controlling the breaks need to be replaced.

Bicycle brakes function by squeezing against the rim of the wheel with intense pressure. Noisy brakes occur when this squeezing doesn't cause a fast enough stop. This happens when the pressure is not intense enough. You can try tightening the brake lines to increase brake to rim pressure and stop the bike faster.

I would take it to a bike shop and have them look at it. They would know more about it then I would or anyone else would. Good luck with your bike.
