I had a 4 way factory installed adapter and had to do a bit of work. I neded an adapter. You'll also need one of these: 3. The universal 7-Way (30717) or 6-Way (30637) or the factory 7-Way (118242) or 6-Way (20028).

I think the Ford F-250 has a Factory Installed 7-Way trailer adapter. Get the brake controller. Locate the OEM plug near the driver side dash. Get a factory or replacement adapter. Now plug one end of the adapter to the controller and the other end to the plug. That's it!

The wires that connect the adapter to the controller are colored and easy to match up - red goes to red, white to white, etc. If you have a replacement adapter get clear instructions about the wire coding before you proceed.  add a comment

On a Ford F 250 you're going to need a basic set of tools. Allen Wrenches, sockets, that sort of thing. Crawl under your hitch and look for the sockets attaching it in place. They can be removed by hand in most cases, or with your A-wrenches. Replace it with a similar brand and you're all set.

The brake controller is a junction where all the brake lines meet. Pull the old one out, replace, reattach the lines and fill up with brake fluid.
