What can cause purple spots on my gums?

A poor diet or poor dental hygiene can cause these spots. You could have gum trauma or bruising. See your doctor to rule out any serious disorders. Dentures that don't fit well can cause purple spots.

My gums have always been purple,but if yours weren't always like that its probably a bruise,the swelling is plaque build up,I wear braces I know exactly what you're going through.
