What can be done about a compulsive licking disorder?

Compulsive licking may need to first be better understood and evaluated. Typically, obsessive compulsive behaviors of many different types respond positive to medications - usually serotonin reuptake inhibitors or SSRI's. But compulsive licking may represent a tic disorder, even Tourette's syndrome which may require different medications. See a neurologist or psychiatrist to better understand this symptom.

It depends on what part is being licked. If it is the hands, the person could wear gloves made to feel uncomfortable against the tongue and could leave residue.
