It is unusual for a surgical abortion to be unsuccessful. Usually the clinic will offer a further procedure if necessary. If any products of conception are left behind these can lead to infection so make sure you see a doctor if something doesn't seem right.

It is important to get another ultrasound to figure out what is going on and then discuss the possibilities with the doctor based on what you see.

You may need to have a follow-up surgical abortion. Or, you could get the abortion pill to complete the abortion.
