What are unique ways to start a speech?

I always think that a great way to start a speech with with a humorous anecdote from your personal life. Even if it eventually has to become a serious speech, this is a really great way to hook in the members of the audience and get them engaged before you start imparting information. The story should obviously relate somehow.

This really depends on what you are going to be speaking on. Try starting with facts or a story or something that will get the audience's attention.
