Well if you are old, it could just be common age spots or just brown spots that come as a result of tanning from the sun. Also, are they white by any chance? Having white spots could be due to tanning from the sun and discoloration. It could also be a disease called vitiligo.

Well these spots could actually be freckled. Are they white in color? If so it could be a sign of vitiligo.

Spots on the skin could come from some kind of skin cell damage. This is often caused by prolonged exposure to the sun or it might come from prolonged exposure to certain chemicals such as bleach that have a high concentration. This is significant damage.

If your hands have brownish spots on them they are known as liver spots or old age spots. Basically they appear because, as we age, the skin on our hands become thinner and they show the years of damage (i.e., sun exposure). Wear sunscreen on your hands.

You may have atopic dermatitis. When you touch a material or powder or chemical maybe something scented or a really high ph level it causes little bumps under your skin.
