I've only seen really big snakes in the zoo.

The worlds largest snakes are the anacondas. The anaconda snake can be found in south and central america and is known to gobble down anything from birds to large mammals. Although it is the largest snake species it is also non-venomous.

In Asia the reticulated python is the biggest and it is probably the biggest overall in the world in terms of length. In America the anaconda lives up to its film reputation as the biggest and they can be shorter but wider than pythons. China seems also to have a lot of big snakes, usually of the boa constrictor type.
