Doxycycline is an antibiotic. There are dozens of antibiotics available and although some antibiotics work better for certain infections than others, it is ultimately up to the prescriber to decide what is best for the patient. However, doxycycline is an antibiotic that does contribute to treating certain infections, such as Chlamydia.
