Symptoms of mange can be quite noticeable. Often you will first notice an itching and scratching dog. Some dogs and cats will loose most of their hair.

patchy fur. if you notice this... take your pet for some treatment because it is pretty easy and straightforward.

The mites that cause mange normally live on dogs. Sometimes the population of mites gets too large or the dog develops sensitivity to them. In that case, you will see symptoms such as pustules on the skin and patches of baldness. One type of mange does not cause itchiness, but the more severe type does. Go to a vet.
