Gout causes pain and redness along with throbbing in the big toe as your gout gets worse it can cause pain in other joints because crystals deposit in the joints and it becomes very painful a simple blood test can confirm gout.

My father did have gout and the most common symptom is very intense joint pain. His was in his knee but it can be in any joint and is most common in the joint of the big toe.

Gout is ususally identifed by a swelling or inflamation of the joints. This typically occurs in the feet, toes and knees. It is extremely painful and characterized by tenderness of the joints. If your father has these symptoms you should consult a doctor. Gout is typically caused by an increased level of uric acid.

It will be painful. It would feel like someone is stabbing you with a knife in the suspected area. There really wouldnt be much doubt if you had it because it would be so painful that would be the main tip. Also it will look infected it may have a greenish or grey look to it from the infection setting in.
