Gout is caused by an increase in uric acid within the body and the kidneys can't filter it out. Some medications can cause an increase in uric acid, thus causing gout symptoms. These include low dose aspirin, niacin, tuberculosis medication and also thiazide diuretics.

I have never heard of medication causing gout. This is a good question. Before considering any treatment you should consult your local doctor. Just because a treatment works well for someone else doesn't mean it will, or is even safe for you. If you have any allergies or reactions that you know of let your family doctor know.

Hypertension, diabetes, dyslipidemia, truncal obesity, increased cardiovascular risk, polycythaemia, intake of cytotoxics, renal disoreders, hemolytic anemia, solid organ transplant may precipitate gout.

Yes, certain medications can cause a flare-up of gout. Diurectics such as furosemide and hydrochlorothiazide cause gout by increasing the concentration of uric acid in the joints.
