Dogs that show any neurologic changes may have had a stroke. Some of the more common signs include: walking in circles or falling over to one side, head tilt, seizures, or any abnormal behavior. A veterinary examination will be necessary to determine if your dog has had a stroke. Strokes are less common in dogs than in people

When considering strokes in dogs, one must analyze the two different types of possible strokes that a dog can have.An ischemic stroke is when a major artery to the brain is blocked, inhibiting flow. A hemorrhagic stroke is when the brain itself is bleeding. Walking in circles is a good indicator of a stroke.

There may be blindness, loss of balance, extreme lethargy, loss of bladder and bowel control- you will know if it is a severe stroke, but any symptoms that lead you to believe your dog may have had a stroke should lead you immediately to his vet.

Your dog will probably look really sick. They may have lost all feeling in one side of their body. The mouth could be droopy on one side.

There can be several symptoms of a stroke in dogs. The most common that I have found is that they tend to run or walk in circles.

Symptoms of stroke are related to weakness or uncoordination on one side of the body. Therefore you may see limping or dragging feet for example. The dog may also appear to be disoriented. Many neurological problems can behave like a stroke. I strongly recommend you take the dog to a vet for a proper diagnosis.

Dogs who have had a stroke often have the same symptoms we do. The dog will often have a weak side if it can walk at all. He may drool a lot and it might be hard for it to eat or swallow.
