Simple rules. 1) Whatever you do to one side, you have to do to the other. 2) Get the variables together. 3) Move the numbers to the other side. 4) Divide or multiply both sides to that there is only 1 X, by itself. That's you're answer. Tips: x + x= 2x; 4 (2x+3)= 8x+12; 4(1/4 x)= x.

Simply check if the question asks to solve for a specific variable, like x or y, then move letters to the left side of the equal sign and numbers to the right side.
