To install gravel driveway first scrape and level the roadway then remove the top layer of the soil along the driveway. Using compactor make the surface solid and lay gravel at-least four inches deep. Use a landscape fabric to avoid gravel from mixing with soil. Spread the gravel evenly using shovel and finally pack it down evenly using compactor

First you must remove the topsoil from the surface. If you skip this step the gravel will simply sink into the topsoil. Second you need to spread the gravel over the driveway. Finally you need to compact the gravel with a tractor or power compactor.

Decide where you want it, measure the width and length it will be. determine depth of gravel you want. using simple math multiply widthx lengthx depth. convert cubic yards. Order gravel from gravel company. dump trucks can roughly spread gravel. Even it out, and Voila! you have a gravel driveway.

The driveway needs to be clay based soil. Sand and topsoil produce poor results. Level and compact the clay based soil. Spread, level and compact the gravel.

Determine how much gravel is need by multiplying driveway length x width x 4ft. Remove soil to a depth of 4 feet. Call your local gravel dealer and tell him what you did and he will supply the right amount of gravel. Ignore his laughter.

Measure out your drive. Then dig out and level dirt within area. Before you put your big rock down you should lay some 3/4 in. clean to stabilize.
