Credit clerks are responsible for reviewing credit history and collecting the information needed to determine the creditworthiness of people/businesses applying for credit. Most of the day is spent on the phone securing information from credit bureaus, employers, banks, creditor and other sources.

Typically, a credit clerk processes applications for loans, and other forms of credit. They may interview the applicant. Other duties may include duties such as performing credit checks, background checks and so forth. The job listings can be vague due to space allowed for each job posting. Reasearch for information and the most common duties.

A credit clerk has responsibility to sell as many credit cards for their company as possible; this position is both simple and demanding, because it requires skills of persuasion.
