The most common reason would be an electrical storm. That and sunspots as well. The least likely one being animal interference.

One of the main reasons is weather. Cloud cover, especially clouds that contain a lot of electrical charge like storm clouds will interupt signals. If you are moving, being out of line of sight of the satellite may cause problems. At home there may be physical obstructions like trees.

Many things could disrupt your satellite signal and cause you to lose it. A few reasons are, clouds in the sky blocking the signal for reaching you, trees in the way and blocking the signal, or a tower falling down. If you have a satellite dish, I would recommend putting it on the highest point of your home.
