The newest thing to look for right now is the computer's processor. In the past few year, computer have gone from 1 core to 2, to 4 and now 8. This means that a processor chip is actually made of several chips which make it faster.

There are 4 main developments that have happened recently. The computer ethernet ports are changing from 10/100 to gigabyte ethernet. For the wireless realm, the new mimo 802. 11n is the most recently released standard. For CPUs, there was the introduction of the quad-core microprocessors. Finally, for connectivity, USB 3. 0 functionality is due to be shipped with computers this year.

Technology is created at an exponential rate. By the time it's created and released to the public a better designed has been made. The main thing with new computer is the size of micro processors. They continue to shrink mean more computing power in the same or less space.
