Not really myths. Phenylpropanolamine has been scientifically linked to an increase in stroke-like activity (bleeding in the brain)! It's a "speed type" drug, related to the amphetamine family. The FDA suggested that drug companies voluntarily stop using it, but it was not forced off the market or made illegal.

The only one that I know of is the e-mail hoax that went around a couple years ag saying that things containing that drug caused cancer. But that isn't true of course. Other than that myth, I don't know any others.

A series of emails circulated regarding phenylpropanolamine and the elevated risk of bleeding and stroke. The emails were mostly accurate, but the ingredient has been removed from most cold products.
