The mandibular nerve and its branches detect sensation for, among other things, the back of the tongue, inside of the cheek, teeth, lower lip, chin, and muscles used to chew.
The mandibular nerve is the largest branch of nerve off of the trigeminal nerve. it consists of two roots, a large sensory root and a small motor root.
