The major types of wine are red wines, white wines, and blush or rose wines. Within each of these major categories, wines can be further classified by country and region of origin, and the type of grape. Most well-known varieties of grapes were developed in Europe, but are now worldwide.

There are two major types of wines in the world today. There are red wines like Merlot or Cabernet and white wines like White Zinfandel and Reistling. Red wines are typically enjoyed with a steak entree. White wines are typically enjoyed with a chicken entree. All wines are made from grapes.

First you have Reds and Whites and then Dry and Sweet (typically red=dry and white=sweet - tho not always!). Some common wine types are Zinfandels(red and white), Chardonnays, Merlots, Pino Grigio(white), and Pino Nior(red), Ports (dessert wines-red), Moscato(lesser-known SWEET white), and any type of berry or fruit wine.

Merlot- red wine, Chardonnay- white wine, Ruessling- white wine, Rose- pink. If you plan to cook with wine, you want to use a wine that you would consider drinking.
