What are the laws in Florida concerning raising someones rent?

It is going to depend on what type of lease you have. If you have a month to month lease, they can raise the rent simply by providing 30 days notice. Other types of leases can generally only be increased at the end of the lease term, when a new lease is signed.

If you have a yearly lease and it is not yet up, then he is doing something illegal. If you don't want to accept the new terms and he won't back down you can go to City Hall and file a complaint. However if you have a month to month lease you may have to move.

If you are at the end of a lease or formal rental agreement then they can raise the rent prior to renewal.
