Florida Homestead Exemption has multiple sections. The first is protection from the forced sale of property to satisfy creditors upon the owner's death (or if the owner is near death). There are exceptions however. It also provides a $25,000 ad valoreum tax break and protects the surviving spouse and/or child

No, it is a way for property owners to get a bit of a break on their homes up to 50,000 dollars and is completely free to file. Go to the tax appraiser office and fill out the form, presto done. It save us about 300 a year.
