The most commonly known and agreed upon rules are the Ten Commandments, supposedly given to Moses by God. These can be found in the books of Exodus and Deuteronomy.

According to Jesus, the Christian is to leave behind his previous life to start a new, committed one in the pathway of Jesus. The greatest commandments according to Christ are to love God above all else, and to love one's neighbor as one's self. Believers are to be humble, forgiving, and repentant of their sins and misdeeds.

Chapters 5 through 7 in the book of Matthew are called the Sermon on the Mount. They are a good summary of Jesus's teachings. They have been called an instruction manual on Christian living and what God wants us to do. Read these passages over and over for more enlightenment.
