Having centralized weight gain puts a person at higher risk for health problems such as diabetes and insulin resistance. The other problems would be due to the complications of being overweight, including the risk or heart attack and stroke. The risk is greater if the excess weight causes high cholesterol. Many that have a big stomach also suffer sleep apnea.

Anything that can enlarge the size of a stomach is a serious health risk. In some cases it's cancer, in others is excessive water retention. Otherwise it is a sign of too much LDL (bad) cholesterol in proportion to too little HDL (good) cholesterol. Translated, that is also called obesity, which comes from being overweight.

Having a big stomach means there is a lot of fats stored therein and thus it exposes one to heart problems and blood pressure and even diabetes. Most of the affluent who are not keen with their food get into this trap and end up with serious heart conditions or even diabetes.
