The most common types would be tonsillitis, strep or oral thrush. The white pockets would indicate strep or thrush. Both types of infections are treated with oral antibiotics, although the types are totally different. Strep is usually treated with Tetracycline or Penicillin, whereas thrush is a yeast infection and is usually treated with Gentian Violet.

This throat infection sounds like Strep throat. You should go to you doctor as soon as possible and they will swab it for a culture and if the results are positive they will give you antibiotics. Strep throat is very contagious and antibiotics are the best way to get rid of this kind of infection.
