There are many different genres of literature. Genres include: classical literature, fiction, detective or criminal fiction, non-fiction, science-fiction (better known as sci-fi), romantic fiction, thriller fiction (such as fiction containing vampires and ghosts), epic literature, tragedies, novel, short story, creative nonfiction, and comedy. There are many different genres of literature.

The main areas are often defined according to the audience. For example Charlles Dickens is a classical author, J K Rowling popular modern author, Tennyson was a poet. Other areas could include Childrens publications, technical, journalism and magazines and lately blogs and websites. You could also include scriptwriting and written work for TV, Films and Radio.

In literature, there are many diferent genres, and there seems to be more that come about throughout the years. Genres can be determined by content, tone, length, and other aspects. The most general genres are epics, novels, short stories, and creative nonfiction. Inside of these general genres you can have science fiction, romance, historical, and plenty of others.
