What are the differences between the Christian and Lutheran religions?

Lutherans are subset of Christians. In other words, Lutherans are Christians and believe in the teachings of Jesus Christ. A "Christian" can belong to any number of subsets, known as denominations. Lutherans get their name from Martin Luther, a 16th century monk who challenged the religious leaders of his time.

The Lutheran denomination is a specific denomination in the Christian religion. Lutheran's came from Martin Luther attempting to reform the Catholic church.
