Despite their tough appearances, boxers are wonderful, affectionate pets -- good with kids, with a nice balance of playfulness and calm. I think larger boxers tend to be better bred.
Boxers are generally very playful and friendly dogs and they love people. They never really grow up, so keep in mind that they probably won't "mellow out" until they're pretty old. The love kids and usually get along with other dogs well.
