The best decking material would be something call TREK. it's a little on the pricier side but well worth it. it's a very hard plastic substance made to look like wood. it is slip resistant and will not crack under strenuous conditions. I wouldn't use anything else.

Vinyl is well used for various climates, I would have to say, it would depend on the kind of harsh climate that is involved. If the climate is extremely harsh I would recommend using a composite material for your deck. It is more reliable than most and also has a variety of choices.

The best materials all around are pressure treated lumber and water resistant products that will product the wood from rotting. Pressure treated lumber takes care of this problem but it won't hurt to add a some sealant to the finished product.

The best thing to do is to get a sturdy wood and use Thompson Water Seal to protect the wood. It is the best thing you can do for wood in harsh climates.

Trex is good but their are other composite materials that may be better. Trex colour fades in the sun and your joist spacing needs to be closer because of its flexibility. No maintenance though.

The best material for a deck in harsh climates is composit decking. Composit decks are more expensive but will last a life time in any harsh climate. Green treated lumber would also be a solution but will require more yearly maintence. Go with composit decking. It is worth every penny spent.

A pressure treated lumber deck would be good as long as you keep a healthy coat of paint on it. Another pricier more durable way is a Trek deck.

Well to solid deck I think the best materials would obviously be concrete. Concrete can resist weather changes and climate changes as well. So therefore, it is best to use this as a decking tool Brick is also very good but as you may know it is very expensive to buy.

The best material in my opinion for all climates is composite decking. It has the same structural strength as wood and lasts longer than regular SPF. It also comes in a variety of colors.
